Enhancing Upper Secondary Learners’ Problem-solving Abilities using Problem-based Learning in Mathematics

Developing problem-solving abilities is a major objective of learning mathematics at school. However, learners’ are still critical. The main purpose this study was to investigate how the problem-based model could enhance in mathematics. used quasi-experimental research with one group pre-test-post-test design. population consisted fifty-four grade eleven learners (aged between 16 19 years old) from school Kayonza District Rwanda. Data were collected using mathematical tests and interviews analysed paired t-tests for dependent sample means descriptive analysis. results indicate that potentially impacts abilities. It shown work all indicators abilities, namely understanding problem, planning ways approach monitoring progress while tackling problem reviewing solution process, emerged as being fairly well improved.
